It will have two distinct repository: free and non-free. Free will contain Open Source Software (as defined by the Fedora Packaging Guidelines) which can't be included in Fedora because it might be patent encumbered in the US. Non-free will contain everything else which can't be in free, like software with public available source-code that has "no commercial use" restrictions, AMD and nvidia drivers. The RPM Fusion project provides a variety of different applications:

Repositories and infrastructure will follow Fedora where possible without too much trouble (for example, koji is to much trouble for now). This means using Fedora's packaging guidelines (except for legal), Fedora's review process for new submissions, Fedora's VCS structure etc. === Sound and Video / Multimedia applications ===

It will contain add-on packages and not replacements in relation to the base package set. Whereby the base package set is defined as: RHEL/CentOS + EPEL or Fedora (Fedora 7+). We have all that is needed to play all kinds of media files, such as MP3 audio or unencrypted DVDs and ship additional multimedia applications such as MPlayer, VLC, Xine and MythTV.

It will contain kernel module packages in the main repo, even if Fedora will drop them (which looks likely as of August 2007). === Kernel Drivers ===

We aim to provide support for all 'current' versions of Fedora including devel, for i386, ppc and x86_64. We offer the ATI and Nvidia closed-source drivers in a Fedora-compatible RPM package for users whose video cards are not yet fully supported with the stock open source drivers, along with drivers for other peripherals.

== More Information ==

RPM Fusion provides packages for all Fedora releases that are supported by the Fedora Project, which includes the development branch "rawhide". These packages are provided as software repositories that make it easy for users to select and install packages through the Add/Remove Software icon or using yum from the command line.

We have two separate software repository lines:

 * "free" for Open Source Software (as defined by the Fedora Licensing Guidelines) which the Fedora project cannot ship due to other reasons
 * "nonfree" for redistributable software that is not Open Source Software (as defined by the Fedora Licensing Guidelines); this includes software with publicly available source-code that has "no commercial use"-like restrictions

Please read our wiki page for information about how to enable these repositories:

=== A note for Livna users ===

All users that installed Livna properly (e.g. by installing the livna-release package) will get RPM Fusion free and nonfree repositories enabled automatically. All packages in Livna that are superseded by packages from RPM Fusion will soon be removed from the Livna repositories.
