  Request: texlive-2011
Summary: Currently Fedora distributes texlive-2007, which is significantly out of date. Jindrich Novy has provided yum repositories for TeXLive-2011 on Fedora:

  URL: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/TeXLive
  URL: http://www.linux.cz/mailman/listinfo/texlive

Why not in Fedora: Incorporation into an official Fedora release is held up pending legal audit of the 3000-odd packages, which may not terminate till 2111. TeXLive themselves are scrupulous about licensing so it's really redundant but lawyers are lawyers.

Package Requests

Use this page to post a request for a packages that can't go to Fedora but would be nice to have in the RPM Fusion repository. For update requests or package enhancements use bugzilla please.

/!\ Important Note: Package request that don't give a good reason why the package cannot go to Fedora will get removed from this list immediately without further notice; if you are unsure if a package is suitable for Fedora then submit it to Fedora Wishlist; alternatively ask Fedora or RPM Fusion contributors for advice!

Note, there is no guarantee that package will be built, but it serves as a basis for maintainers looking for ideas on what to package next. But that doesn't happen very often, as you can guess from the length of this list. The best way to get a package into RPM Fusion quickly is to join RPM Fusion and maintaining the package yourself.

Please edit this page to add a new request ensuring the layout is maintained. For example:

  Request: foo
Summary: A program that does all sorts of foo
  URL: http://www.example.com
Why not in Fedora: Explanation why this package is not eligible as a regular package in the Fedora repositories; packages request without a proper explanation will get removed from this list immediately!
Notes: Optional notes section which may be useful for potential packagers

Requests will be removed where an RPM already exists in Fedora or RPM Fusion itself.

Current Requests

Place your current requests here, in alphabetical order.

  Request: aacgain
Summary: AACGain is a modification to the excellent mp3gain program. It supports AAC (mp4/m4a/QuickTime) audio files.
  URL: http://altosdesign.com/aacgain/
Why not in Fedora: Same reason mp3gain is not eligible; fear of patents. And it requires packages only available in rpm fusion.
Notes: Should be a straight-forward addition

  Request: acx100/acx111

  URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/acx100/
Why not in Fedora: There are legal questions raised about the origin of that driver.

  URL: http://www.free-av.de/de/download/download_servers.php
Why not in Fedora: Antivir is free, but not open. For private use only.

  Request: anyremote-j2me-client
Summary: J2ME client for anyRemote (bluetooth remote control for PC)
  URL: http://anyremote.sourceforge.net/
Why not in Fedora: anyremote-j2me-client uses Sun WTK (which is free, but not open-source) for build.
  Notes: Review Request at https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167

  Request: Arista Transcoder
Summary: A simple preset-based transcoder for the GNOME Desktop and a small script for terminal-based transcoding. Settings are chosen based on output device and quality preset.
  URL: http://www.transcoder.org

  Notes: Easy to build.

  Request: ATI Stream SDK

  URL: http://developer.amd.com/gpu/ATIStreamSDK/Pages/default.aspx
Why not in Fedora: This is proprietary closed-source software.

  Request: audacious-plugins-oss
Summary: OSS part of audacious-plugins which is not included in Fedora's audacious-plugins

Why not in Fedora: Free, but not open. Only for private use.

  Request: CDemu (in progress)
Summary: a kernel module simulate a CD drive + CD from cue/bin files
  URL: http://cdemu.sourceforge.net/
Why not in Fedora: Fedora won't ship the kernel modules (RH #177583).

Request: cairo (with patches to support cleartype filtering)
  Summary: A vector graphics library
  URL: http://cairographics.org
Why not in Fedora: Patent issues regarding cleartype filtering
Notes: this package should be part of a logical group of other patched packages supporting better subpixel rendering in Fedora, to bring up the font rendering to the level of Ubuntu, Windows XP/Vista and MacOS/X. These packages are: cairo, freetype, fontconfig, libXft (and maybe pixman, this should be checked). Source packages already exist with patches supporting these features for all the above packages at: ftp://brebs.me.uk/fedora/10/. Further info: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-186789.html

  Request: cdrecord
Summary: CD, DVD and BluRay recording software
  URL: http://cdrecord.berlios.de/private/cdrecord.html
Why not in Fedora: Several questions in fedora-legal about the compatibility between CDDL and GPL. It did not pass legal review. Upstream allows and encourages free redistribution.
Notes: This package should be packaged as an alternative for wodim. It uses a custom build system, bundled with the tarball.

  Request: Chromium
Summary: Open source version of Google's Chrome web browser
  URL: http://www.chromium.org/Home
Why not in Fedora: due to legal concerns with some of the included code. This might not be an issue anymore. A person from FedoraProject packages Chromium in his spre time. http://spot.fedorapeople.org/chromium/
Notes: Google does provide a stable Chrome for Linux, but Chromium doesn't have the unique tracking ID that Google uses to identify users by, and Chromium doesn't send what you type in the omni box bar to Google, which Chrome does. That's why Chromium is to be prefured over Chrome.

  Request: cinelerra
Summary: One of the best video edition tools around
  URL: http://cinelerra.org/
Why not in Fedora: Well, this package uses a lot of codecs available in livna/rpmfusion, so, that's why.

  Request: clamdrib
Summary: Adds clamav checking to Thunderbird
  URL: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/6663

Notes: Changing install.rtf, doesn't help it work in latest T\B 3.0b4
Status appears in message toolbar, but no details if message clean\infected.

Request: ClipGrab
Summary: ClipGrab is a tool to download the complete video or audio stream from diverse video portals like Youtube, Dailymotion and Vimeo. It is e.g. available in the openSUSE repositories.
  URL: http://clipgrab.de/info_en.html
Why not in Fedora: Proprietary, formats (MP3, MPEG4).

  Request: Dolphin Emulator
Summary: A Nintendo Gamecube and Wii Emulator with wiimote support and high compatibility with commercial games
Why not in Fedora: As an emulator there are legal problems putting this package in fedora repos
  URL: http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/
Notes: The source builds nicely under Ubuntu so should also do so under Fedora, but seems to cause all sorts of headaches for users unable to optimise the makefile

  Request: dahdi-linux
Summary: Digium Asterisk Hardware Device Interface (DAHDI) linux kernel modules, firmware and documentation
Why not in Fedora: While Fedora does package dahdi-tools, dahdi-linux contains kernel modules (and firmware)
that are not part of the main kernel tree, and are not included in Fedora. Note that there is no need to package
dahdi-tools as this would be redundant. A spec file that I use currently is here:
  https://messinet.com/svn/rpms/dahdi-linux/trunk/dahdi-linux.spec

  Request: Doom Legacy 2.0
Summary: SDL Open GL Doom Source port (WIP refer to the legacy forum or svn directory)

 Request: easyMP3Gain
Summary: A GUI for mp3Gain, aacGain, and vorbisGain to make gaining audio files just as easy as in windows
  URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/easymp3gain
Why not in Fedora: mp3Gain isn't in Fedora either, so it's only natural that a GUI for it wouldn't be either.
Notes: The project page has an RPM that already installs nicely into F10 and Rawhide. It would also be helpful to include aacGain in RPMFusion for completion.

  Request: FASTA
Summary: The FASTA programs find regions of local or global (new) similarity between Protein or DNA sequences
  URL: http://fasta.bioch.virginia.edu/fasta_www2/fasta_down.shtml

Summary: Tool to convert potentially large sets of FLAC audio files into the MP3 format
  URL: http://bytemonkey.org/flac2mp3/
  Why not in Fedora: MP3
Notes: source rpm available at http://cachalot.mine.nu/10/SRPMS/

Request: FreeCAD
Summary: FreeCAD is a highly sophisticated CAD editor for mechanical engineering and product design. It is based on OpenCascade (if included the OpenCascade item can probably be removed as well) and should be packaged in the repo, since a good CAD editor is frequently requested by the community.
  URL: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/free-cad/index.php?title=Main_Page
Why not in Fedora: Same as OpenCascade. Furthermore, it is stroked through on http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/WishList Rahul Sundaram guessed it could have been licensing issues in the past (cmp. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=221294&page=12)

Request: FreeMat
Summary: FreeMat is an application for scientific prototyping similar to Matlab and IDL.
  URL: http://freemat.sourceforge.net/
Why not in Fedora: Not sure, but it is stroked through on http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/WishList Rahul Sundaram guessed it could have been licensing issues in the past (cmp. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=221294&page=12)

Request: fontconfig (with updated configuration to make use of available cleartype rendering and bytecode interpreter features)
Summary: Font configuration and customization library
  URL: http://fontconfig.org
Why not in Fedora: Because the default packages do not provide these features.

Why not in Fedora: needs mythtv which is in rpmfusion

Summary: Docky is a frontend for GNOME Do (Do) that introduces an entirely new way to interact with Do. Docky helps Do become more directly involved with your desktop by providing a persistent mouse based Dock interface while remaining true to Do's keyboard only interaction.
  URL: http://do.davebsd.com/wiki/index.php?title=Docky
Why not in Fedora: Docky (part of package gnome-do) was removed from fedora due to patent violations (US Patent 7434177). Docklets are used by Dock.
Notes: This is very nice interface, replacement for gnome taskbar.

  Request: libsox-fmt-all
Summary: The complete set of sox format codecs
  URL: http://sox.sourceforge.net/, http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/libsox-fmt-all
Why not in Fedora: Well, mp3 can't be redistributed blah blah kinda stuff.
Notes: Ubuntu provides all the libsox-fmt codecs. We should also (besides, they have a .deb so it should be fairly easy to translate)

  Request: HandBrake (in progress)
Summary: An open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 converter, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows.
  URL: http://handbrake.fr/
Why not in Fedora: Contains implementations of encoders and decoders for patented algorithms (e.g. MP3).
Notes: This comes in both a CLI and GUI version, which would both be useful. Also, it requires libdvdcss to read DVDs directly.
The default makefile downloads all it's own copies of all the multimedia libs, the challenging part here to get it to use the existing rpmfusion libraries as dependencies instead.

  Request: Hid-ntrig-dkms
Summary: An open-source updated Ntrig Multitouch driver with support for newer devices.
  URL: http://bitmath.org/code/hid/hid-ntrig-dkms/

Summary: X.Org X11 libXft runtime library
  URL: http://www.x.org

  Request: ManDVD
Summary: KDE based DVD creation program.
  URL: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/ManDVD?content=83906

  Summary: Nintendo 64 emulator
  URL: http://mupen64.emulation64.com/
Why not in Fedora: Emulators are not permitted in Fedora
Notes: This one was at Dribble but it is not in RPM Fusion. Mupen64 seems to work only on i386 and there are no updates on the project home page in the last 3 years. There is an active fork, called mupen64plus (see below).

  Request: Mupen64Plus
  Summary: Nintendo 64 emulator
  URL: http://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/

teleconferencing protocol, and successor of the openh323 library.
  URL: http://www.opalvoip.org/
Why not in Fedora: It is available in fedora but with disabled support for x264 and ffmpeg, thus lacking H.264 and
all other MPEG-based video conferencing abilities. This results in ekiga being very limited
with the codecs offered for use to the end-user.
Notes: I've got self-modified .spec file for opal-3.6.8-1 based on the one from Fedora 12 and expected to be built
against older version of x264 that was available as a package from ATrpms. There were reported problems with
opal linking against latest versions of x264, but now (as of 2011/07/05) it seems that there are patches
available at ekiga's bugzilla (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596006#c24) that solve the case.
ATM I'm in process of patching opal spec file using SRPMS from Fedora 15 as a base, and intend to use x264-devel
package from RPMFusion as a dependency. Goind to post the spec for review request as soon as would done with it.

Notes: OpenSSL is included in Fedora but with Elliptic Curve, IDEA, MDC-2, RC5 crypto algorithms disabled.

  Request: Opera
Summary: A popular web browser and Internet suite.
  URL: http://www.opera.com/

Notes: Opera distributes both, tarball archives and rpms for Fedora and EPEL on their download pages (e.g. http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=linux-i386&ver=9.63&local=y for i386). Also, they welcome if anyone wants to mirror their packages (http://www.opera.com/download/mirrors/), but it doesn't say anything about if they allow repackaging and such.

  URL: http://www.pcsx.net/
Why not in Fedora: Emulators are not permitted in Fedora
Notes: pcsx-df (Debian fork) review has been dropped at Dribble (http://dribble.org.uk/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=130)

  Request: PlayOnLinux
Summary: A simplified installer for Windows games on wine
  URL: http://www.playonlinux.com
Why not in Fedora: Supports only proprietary programs to be installed
Notes: They have their own yum repo, so implementation should be easy.

  Request: Pulseaudio OSS module
Summary: The Open Sound System (OSS) module for Pulseaudio
  URL: http://pulseaudio.org/ (Offline?)
Why not in Fedora: Fedora has removed OSS support because they consider it legacy.
Notes: Including this would make programs which support Pulseaudio to work with OSS. OSS installs well to Fedora 13 and works with software which have OSS support like VLC and Wine.

Request: Skype
Summary: Skype is a very popular teleconferencing application. It has some questionable properties, but is one of the few apps to make calls to landlines. It is e.g. available in the Canonical partner repository.
  URL: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/ http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-fc10
Why not in Fedora: Skype is free, but proprietary and thus closed source. They have been engaged in censorship in China, preferred Intel users etc.

Summary: SmartGit is a front-end for the distributed version control system Git. It is intended for developers who prefer a graphical user interface over a command line client, to be even more productive with Git — the most powerful DVCS today.

  Request: smplayer-themes
Summary: This package provides icon themes for SMPlayer.
  URL: http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/downloads.php?tr_lang=en
Why not in Fedora: requires packages only available in rpmfusion, is very cool and easy to build and packing
Notes: I got a .spec, here http://sergiomb.no-ip.org/specs/smplayer-themes.spec, which builds smplayer-themes-0.1.19.tar.bz2 into rpms.
Answer: There are many mixed licenses in the "free" package, eg. GPL, LGPL, Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license, Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License. Someone with proper understanding of mixing licenses needs to look deeper into this (SebastianVahl - smplayer maintainer).

  Request: snack
Summary: The Snack Sound Toolkit is designed to be used with a scripting language such as Tcl/Tk or Python. Using Snack you can create powerful multi-platform audio applications with just a few lines of code.

  URL: http://www.spotify.com/uk/download/previews/
  Why not in Fedora: Non-free

  URL: http://www.swftools.org
Why not in Fedora: it requires lame to encode mp3.

  Request: tp_smapi
Summary: Exposes parts of the Thinkpad BIOS to Linux, such as battery charging limits.
  URL: http://tpctl.sourceforge.net/
Why not in Fedora: Fedora won't ship kernel modules
Notes: Someone on Fedora people has already built a kmod and akmod package for Fedora, http://ndim.fedorapeople.org/packages/tp_smapi-kmod/ .

  Request: VIA Chrome9 drm kmod/akmod
Summary: provide DRM support for VIA Chrome9 graphic card
URL: http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action, choose CN896, Ubuntu 8.10, link: Chrome9 DRM source for kernel
Why not in Fedora: Fedora won't ship kernel modules
Notes: urgently needed for running Chrome9 GPUs with VIA proprietary driver. Even if users manage to get those drivers manually running, they need to build the module when kernel updates arrive through updates.

Request: VIA Chrome9/UniChrome proprietary 3D Xorg driver.
Summary: provide Xorg 3D driver for VIA Chrome9/UniChrome
URL: http://linux.via.com.tw/support/downloadFiles.action, choose CN896, Ubuntu 8.10, link: Unified GFX driver Ver 85a-44597
Why not in Fedora: restricted driver
Notes: Although only available for Ubuntu 8.10, they also work for Fedora. Confirmed for HP 2133, see http://hp2133.umsw.de, section 11b. Issues with SELinux, also with OpenGL and RandR (both only when using compiz). 2D driver works better with RandR but is known to cause system freezes. Options/switches for xorg.conf not well documented. 3D driver needs VIA Chrome9 drm module, 2D may run without it, thus poor performance playing videos etc.

  Request: Veejay

Why not in Fedora: The engine is based upon ffmpeg and the mjpegtools

  Request: vdr-softdevice (ShmClient)

  Request: winetricks
Summary: A package and settings manager for Wine
  URL: http://code.google.com/p/winetricks/
Why not in Fedora: winetricks is typically used to install proprietary native code. Also, handling of bugs upstream (WineHQ) can be complicated if winetricks is installed.
Notes: Read http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks and http://code.google.com/p/winetricks/wiki/Installing for some info. Dependencies: "wine cabextract unzip p7zip wget zenity" and of course maybe others. That list is called out in the script itself. ALSO note, there is a man page in the winetricks source repository.
  Review: https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1992

  Request: Xe
Summary: A multi system emulator emulates many console and handheld video game systems. Xe is an original emulator written from scratch.

Summary: Driver for X server which allows running on GMA500 Intel graphics
  URL: http://netbook-remix.archive.canonical.com/updates/pool/public/x/xserver-xorg-video-psb/
Why not in Fedora: Actually it exists in Fusion repo but only for F14 and earlier. There is no psb driver for F15 release. It is not included into Fedora repo because, as far as I know, it depends on proprietary packages.
Notes: This package also requires additional dependencies ('kmod-psb' and 'psb-firmware') which are also present for F14 release.

Request: zaptel-kmod (In progress - Seeking sponsor to add WillTatam as a contributor)

Software we won't package

  Request: AdobeReader
Summary: An application that can view, navigate and print PDF documents
Notes: Adobe provides its own Yum repository for Adobe Reader and Flash - see http://blogs.adobe.com/acroread/2008/02/adobe_reader_now_available_via.html

  Request: libdvdcss
Summary: A library for accessing and unscrambling DVDs encrypted with the Content Scramble System (CSS)
  URL: http://www.videolan.org/developers/libdvdcss.html
Why not in RPM Fusion: The short story is: It was agreed on not to ship it due to various reasons around the fact that libdvdcss is a bit more complicated (or dangerous) than all the other software RPM Fusion offers have. The long story and all the arguments for and against shipping it can be found in the mailing lists archives.

Livna and Freshrpms will provide libdvdcss for the forseeable future.

  Request: ipset
Summary: A pgm to set the list of ip ranges used in iptables/ipmodules
  URL: http://ipset.netfilter.org/
Why not in RPM Fusion: xtables-addons will provide ipset in the foreseeable future.

  Request: java-1.6.0-sun
  Summary: Sun JDK Runtime Environment
  URL: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Notes: self-build instructions for the latest Sun JDK at http://www.city-fan.org/tips/SunJava6OnFedora
Why not in RPM Fusion: restrictions on redistribution; the license at the time of writing can be found at:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/jdk-6u18-license.txt
It includes terms (in the "License to Distribute Redistributables" section) like:
(iii) you do not distribute additional software intended to supersede any component(s) of the Redistributables
(this would include free Java implementations such as are already included in Fedora)
(vi) you agree to defend and indemnify Sun and its licensors from and against any damages, costs, liabilities,
settlement amounts and/or expenses (including attorneys' fees) incurred in connection with any claim, lawsuit
or action by any third party that arises or results from the use or distribution of any and all Programs and/or
      Software
(nobody at RPM Fusion is likely to agree to that)
